Freelance Writing 101
If you’ve always dreamed of writing articles on a freelance basis, we can help get you started. We can sit down with you, talk with you on the phone, or correspond with you in a series of e-mails to give you the materials and the know-how to get going with your freelance career. We’ll fill you in on the must-read industry publications and blogs, and the publications and blogs pertaining to your interests. We’ll teach you how to write a query letter, pitching etiquette, how to the make the most of pitches you can’t place, and how to dive into pitches that are assigned! We’ll walk you through writing your first five pitches, we’ll edit the pitches, and we’ll help you identify the right publication and editor to pitch them to! This is experience and knowledge that would take you years to amass—bypass paying your dues and learn from us for a one-time low fee.

The Perfect Pitch
Do you have a great idea for an article, but you’re not exactly sure how to take it from dinner party discussion or girls’ night gossip to an accepted pitch at a major magazine? We’ll talk with you in person or on the phone and help you identify your idea, your argument, your supporting information, and your research plan of action. We’ll have you write the perfect pitch and decide which editor at which publication to pitch; we’ll work with you to choose e-mail or snail mail, and help you prepare to follow-up via phone or e-mail if you don’t hear back right away... but with our help, hopefully you will!

Is This Pitch Ready?
We can take a look at your article pitch, checking for grammar, offering any suggestions for content if we have them, and making sure that you’re pitching the right editor (with her name spelled correctly). We will try to complete “Is This Pitch Ready?” assignments within 24 hours. Us catching three typos and an editors’ name misspelled could be the difference that earns you a $700 assignment—so our service would be the best money you ever spent!

Writing the Perfect Article or Op-Ed
If you have an assignment in hand, have been invited to submit an article on spec, or plan to write an article and then submit it unsolicited, we can help you write the best article or opinion piece possible. For an article, we’d discuss with you who you should approach as a source and how (and what questions to ask!), whether you need a central argument and what it should be, and writing the article so the structure and tone is appropriate for the publication you’re writing for. For an op-ed, we’d help you with your argument, your research, your structure, and your style. Naturally, we can also help with editing and proofreading before you submit it.
